Aboriginal artists are active in many parts of the country apart
from the broad regions identified in the map on this Website.
Other parts of Australia where there are clusters
of artists include tropical Queensland around Townsville, southeast
Queensland, the north and south coasts of New South Wales, the
lower Murray and Lake Eyre regions in South Australia and the
South West and Pilbara regions of Western Australia.
Aboriginal artists from
Tasmania draw on their distinctive culture, derived from
many thousands of years of physical isolation, and their experience
of colonization over the last two hundred years.
We intend over time to look at some of the active artists and
art communities in these other parts of Australia.
