Title: Ngalyipi Jukurrpa - Snake Vine Dreaming
Price: $400.00 in Australia and Export.
PA808, 2011
Acrylic on canvas
46 x 76 cm
The country shown in this painting is Purturlu (Mt. Theo) area. Ngalyipi (snake vine) is often represented in contemporary Warlpiri paintings by curved lines and has great ceremonial significance for Warlpiri. Ngalyipi is used to make shoulder straps to help carry ‘ngami’ (water carriers) and ‘parraja’ (wooden food carriers). In this painting the women are collecting ‘ngalyipi’. The Ngalyipi Jukurrpa is associated with initiation ceremonies for young men.

Title: Ngapa Jukurrpa
Price: $650.00 in Australia and Export.
PA820, 2011
Acrylic on canvas
61 x 76 cm
The country associated with this Ngapa Jukurrpa (Water Dreaming) is Mikanji, a watercourse that is usually dry, west of Yuendumu. In this creek bed there are ‘mulju’ (soakages). The Dreaming travelled from Puyurru, northwest of Yuendumu to a ‘mulju’ in the Mikanji creek. By the side of the soakages two old blind women of the Nampijinpa skin group were sitting. A rain ancestor travelled to Mikanji from Puyurru and unleashed a huge storm. As the two women strained their eyes to see the sky, tears formed in their eyes, creating the rain. Their spirits can still be seen at Mikanji in the form of two ‘ngapiri’ (river red gums) growing near the soakage. Motifs frequently used to depict this story include concentric circles representing ‘mulju’ (water soakages) and short bars depicting ‘mangkurdu’ (clouds).

Title: Jajutuma Jukurrpa - Caterpillar Dreaming
Price: $750.00 in Australia and Export.
PA815, 2012
Acrylic on canvas
61 x 91 cm
The Jajutuma Jukurrpa is related to a site near to Wapurtali (Mt. Singleton) to the west of Yuendumu. ‘Jajutuma’ (caterpillar) are found in ‘warrilyi’ trees (Blue Mallee). Paintings of the travels and actions of Jajutuma in the Wapurtali area often show the huge battle that the ‘jajutuma’ and ‘yarla’ (bush potato) ancestors fought at Yumurrpa. In the paintings of this Dreaming long straight lines and continuous wavy lines often are used to depict the paths taken by the ‘jajutuma’ ancestors as they travelled from Wapurtali to Nyurdiparu.

Title: Mina Mina Jukurrpa
Price: $400.00 in Australia and Export.
PA816, 2012
Acrylic on canvas
46 x 76 cm
The country associated with this Jukurrpa is Mina Mina, a place far to the west of Yuendumu. All of them are the custodians of the Jukurrpa that created the area. The Jukurrpa story tells of the journey of a group of women of all ages who travelled to the east gathering food, collecting ‘ngalyipi’ (snake vine) and performing ceremonies as they travelled. The women began their journey at Mina Mina where ‘karlangu’ (digging sticks) emerged from the ground. Taking these implements the women travelled east creating Janyinki and other sites. Their journey took them far to the east beyond the boundaries of Warlpiri country. The ‘ngalyipi’ vine grows up the trunks and limbs of the ‘kurrkara’ (desert oak) trees. ‘Ngalyipi’ is a sacred vine that has many uses. It can be used as a ceremonial wrap, as a strap to carry ‘parrajas’ (wooden bowls) that are laden with bush tucker and as a tourniquet for headaches

Title: Ngapa Jukurrpa - Water Dreaming
Price: $400.00 in Australia and Export.
PA817, 2009
Acrylic on canvas
46 x 76 cm
The site depicted in this work is Puyurru, west of Yuendumu. In the usually dry creek bed are water soakages or naturally occurring wells. Two men, rainmakers, sang the rain, unleashing a giant storm. It travelled across the country, with the lightning striking the land. This storm met up with another storm from Wapurtali, to the west and was picked up by a ‘kirrkarlanji’ (brown falcon) and carried further west until it dropped the storm at Purlungyanu, where it created a giant soakage. At Puyurru the bird dug up a giant snake, ‘warnayarra’ (the Rainbow Serpent). The snake carried water with it to create a large lake named Jillyiumpa, close to an outstation in this country. In many paintings of this Jukurrpa curved and straight lines represent the ‘ngawarra’ (flood waters) running through the landscape. Motifs frequently used to depict this story include small circles representing ‘mulju’ (water soakages) and short bars depicting ‘mangkurdu’ (clouds).

Title: Yarla Jukurrpa
Price: $950.00 in Australia and Export.
PA802, 2010
Acrylic on linen canvas
61 x 122 cm
This Yarla Jukurrpa comes from an area to the east of Yuendumu called Cockatoo Creek. ‘Yarla’ (bush potato) are fibrous tubers that grow beneath a low spreading plant, found by looking for cracks in the ground. This edible tuber grows from ‘yartura’ (roots) which seek out moisture to spout new plants. Yarla are good to eat - when cooked they are really soft and tasty. The Jukurrpa tells of ‘yarla’ and ‘wapirti’ (bush carrot) ancestors fighting a big battle in this area. The specific site associated with this painting is a ‘mulju’ (water soakage) called Ngarparapunyu. The curved lines of the ‘kuruwarri’ (ceremonial designs) represent the ‘ngamarna’ (vine-like tendrils) from which grow ‘jinjirla’ (flowers). ‘Karlangu’ (digging sticks) are usually represented as straight lines. ‘Karlangu’ are used by women to dig for bush tucker like Yarla and Wapirti which are found underground.
