Aboriginal prints are an attractive and affordable
form of Australian Aboriginal art. Artists have
expanded rapidly in their use of print making as
a form of artistic expression.
There is now a wide range of etchings, screenprints
and other limited edition works by both established
and emerging artists from communities in the Kimberley,
Central and Western Desert and Top End (including
Arnhem Land) regions of Australia.

Hector is a deeply religious man whose art concentrates on interpretations of Dreaming events, seeking out common ground between Aboriginal and Catholic beliefs. Owl Dreaming shows the owls (damoyn) on Texas Downs Station with boab trees under the night sky. |

Jakamarra has depicted four of his most important Dreamings. They are Ngapa (Water), Pampardu (Flying Ant) Janganpa (Possum) and Ngalyipi (Snake Vine) The first Dreaming Ngapa comes from a place called Wapurtali, Mt. Singleton, west of Yuendumu. The short dashes represent clouds, the flowing lines flooded waters. This Ngapa Jukurrpa travelled to Mirrawarri, through Wapurtali. The Pamapardu story is in the middle of the painting. The pamapardu (Flying Ant) story is from Wilyiki (close to Mt Singleton). These flying ants get flushed out of their mingkirri (ant mounds) when it rains heavily. They sprout wings and fly off to find dry areas to rebuild their colonies The country associated with the Janganpa is Mawurrji, a water soakage created in the Dreamtime The possum was watching women as they were collecting food and water at Mawurrji. The curved lines are the tracks left by the possum's tail with the "E" shape foot prints (wirliya). The last story is of Ngalyipi or Snake Vine which is traditionally collected and made into rope. |

David has depicted night insects of Yathalamara where he lives. This tiny outstation lies near a swamp alive with fish and birdlife and abounding in the insects which they feed off. Here David has shown reeds at the waters edge with the insects sitting at the base of the stems waiting until nightfall before they make their presence known in song.

Lucy has depicted some of Lucy 's grandmother's country located far to the south of Balgo, in the Great Sandy Desert. This print features some of the country around a tjurrnu, or soakwater called Winpurpurla. Winpurpurla is an inta, or 'living water' place in that it always has good water. The Tjukurrpa (Dreamtime) story for this country tells of some ancestral women of the Nungurrayi, Nampitjin and Napangardi skin groups who came to camp at Winpurpula. These ancestral women made a fire close to the water, and started dancing a secret/sacred dance. The dancing went all night after which they started walking a long way west. The woman came to Winpurpurla to collect some of the special food that grows here, in particular the murlanpa, a flower harvested from the 'sugar tree', which is eaten raw and is a great delicacy.

Helicopter has depicted some of his traditional country named Jupiter Well, which is located far to the south west of Balgo, in the Great Sandy Desert. It was in this country that Helicopter was born, and travelled and hunted as a young man with his family. The majority of the painting represents the tali, or sand dunes which dominate the landscape of the area. The central circle depicted is Jupiter Well itself. |

The east Kimberley cattle station Bedford Downs, Freddie's birthplace, is featured in this print. The black-coloured Ant Creek emerges from the high 'top country', and runs down past black soil plain, yellow, spinifex studded, flat country, and the red-ochred Baalguny lands to continue through neighbouring Bow River station, and on to drain into Bow River, and ultimately, the Ord River. These are the lands on which the young Freddie rode and was taught the skills by his mentor, the famous Bow River stockman, Bandy Boy. This man also endowed many of his secrets to the young Rover Thomas. Bandy Boy tells the story of the packs of marauding dogs, also known as dingoes, maranji, or joolany, in the area Joolabun, which would keep the men and the cattle awake when they made camp on the long cattle drive to Wyndham. |
