The limited edition prints below are by Central Desert Arrernte
artists who work at the Irrkerlantye art and community centre
in Alice Springs. They have recently taken up the making of
screen prints and lino cuts.
These prints document an important aspect of life for many
Aboriginal people - working on cattle stations. For more information,
see our page on Aboriginal
people and the Cattle Industry. Short summaries of the artists'
lives are on the Irrkerlantye
biographies page.
The prints (except for PR861, PR863 and PR864) were made as
part of the "Arrernte Station Histories" exhibition
held during the Alice Springs Festival 2004. The exhibition
highlighted the key role played by Arrernte people in the pastoral
industry in central Australia.
Artists have continued to produce images on this theme in 2005.
All the screen prints were made with a screen area of 29 cm
x 19 cm. The paper size is 38 cm x 29 cm.
