Paintings from TasmaniaPaintings from Tasmania

Artists from Tasmania work in a variety of media. The themes and forms of their art reflect Tasmanian culture and history. For more information, see our pages on Tasmanian art and culture.

The painting below is by Peter Brown, who works in acrylic on canvas. Peter is a Palawa man (Tasmanian Aborigine). He is from the "Big River Tribe" of central Tasmania.

He states: "My interest and inspirations stem from my spiritual connection to my land and my culture. My paintings are often expressed in the spiritual dimension and dreamings. My preferred medium is traditional ochres. However because I have been imprisoned (in prison) for some 18 years my main medium is acrylics with an emphasis on traditional earthly colours. My artwork has been in various Aboriginal art exhibitions around Tasmania; including a Behind Bars exhibition that toured Tasmania."

The prices below are in Australian dollars and do not include packing, shipping and insurance - use the "Enquire" button to confirm availability of a painting and the cost of shipping. To check the equivalent price in other currencies, use the Currency Conversion link.

The painting below is exempt from Australian GST, so the price for Australia and export is the same (unlike on some other parts of our Web site). For more details about shopping, see our Shopping and online security section.
